With multiple state titles between them, the Johnston baseball and softball programs had played on substandard fields for a number of years – irrigation systems that did not work, gopher plagued outfields, and facilities prone to flooding.
As part of a program of District-wide facility enhancements, a new baseball/softball complex was constructed in 2018 and became the first high school facility in Iowa to have synthetic turf fields for both teams. As part of the project, new bleachers, dugouts, bullpens and batting cages were provided. New LED sports field lighting was also included.
